World Backup Day – Protect your business with Labgroup!

Missed #WorldBackupDay on March, 31st? Don’t worry! Labgroup provides you every day all year with data protection services your company may need!

Why is everyone concerned about “backup” and “data protection”?

Because data are a valuable asset that must be protected to ensure the long-lasting success of the company. As a matter of fact, should an incident or a disaster occur, the loss of information may result in declining reputation, service interruption, a decrease in earnings or even failure. It is, therefore, crucial to safeguard the business continuity, developing and maintaining the ability to recover from an IT disaster.

This is the intent of the World Backup Day: remind us how essential it is to protect our data, keeping at least one copy of our computer files backed up in a device other than your internal storage to avoid a possible files loss.

Being a specialist for preservation of information, Labgroup provides, of course, data protection solutions to help your company to:

–      Back up your data regularly, automatically, remotely and safely.

–      Restore yourself individual files, databases and emails!

–      Recover the system files, the applications and the data in disaster recovery scenario.

–      Continue business operations using the Internet to access your servers that have been recovered in the Labgroup private cloud.

Information Governance Day 2018

Today is the Global Information Governance Day!

#GIGD occurs on the third Thursday in February and was established to raise awareness on information governance.

WHAT IS INFORMATION GOVERNANCE (IG)?

IG includes activities and technologies that organisations employ to maximise the value of their information while minimising associated risks and costs.
IG is based on a holistic approach to managing corporate information by implementing processes, roles, controls and metrics that treat information as a valuable business asset:

  • make information assets available to those who need it,
  • provide employees with data they can trust and easily access while making business decisions,
  • reduce legal risks associated with the unmanaged or inconsistently managed information.

The information governance, after a preliminary analysis, results in a classification of the information according to its nature or its value. This classification enables the identification of your information with engaging/probative/legal value, (for instance business contracts, policies…).

NEWS ON INFORMATION GOVERNANCE IN EUROPE!

Information governance has never been as important as in 2018. The European Union pursues its objective of restoring trust and imposing transparency on businesses. All companies as of 2018 “must watch over the outcome of their data, from their creation to their destruction.”
In this way, Europe is focusing on strengthening digital trust through a policy of protection and regulation, as reflected in:

  • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), in force in May 2018.
    • Three objectives :
      • strengthen the rights of people + creation of a right to the portability of personal data,
      • empower stakeholders dealing with data,
      • increase awareness of the regulation thanks to reinforced cooperation between the authorities
  • European regulation eIDAS (Electronic Identification and Trust Services) n°910/2014, which has been fully implemented since the 1st of July 2016, has demonstrated the willingness of member states to democratise digitisation by:
    • enhancing the security of electronic exchanges;
    • recognising the universal value of the electronic signature;
    • granting of legal value to a digital document. (In Luxembourg the legal framework anticipates and supports this democratisation of the digitisation. The law of 25th of July 2015 on electronic archiving recognises the probative value of electronic copies of paper documents produced by a PSDC (Provider of Digitisation and Conservation Services) certified company to respect all the conditions of strict fidelity to the original and, moreover, the presumption of conformity with the original.)

HOW TO RESPOND TO THESE NEW REQUIREMENTS/OBLIGATIONS?

1. SIMPLIFY & STRENGTHEN INFORMATION GOVERNANCE WITH ARCATEG™

Being a trusted partner of Marie-Anne Chabin, an internationally recognised expert in the archiving and digital information management field, as well as the creator of the Arcateg™ method, Labgroup integrates this method into its service offering.  Arcateg™ is an original and effective methodology that accelerates and consolidates information management rules and their implementation.

The 100 universal categories of the Arcateg™ ranking framework cover all possible values of information on all media and thus facilitate the audit and qualification of risk information in the enterprise. These conservation categories make it possible to structure the lifecycle of documents and data rigorously and sustainably.

With Arcateg ™, you can both simplify and strengthen information governance across the organisation (lifecycle management of files and folders, data security, content access). You can also decline to use the Arcateg ™ repository according to various specific projects: improvement of physical archiving, quality and completeness of the retention rules, identification of personal data and compliance with GDPR.

2. …AND WHAT ABOUT MY LEGAL DOCUMENTS? CALL FOR A PSDC-DC!

First PSDC-DC company in Luxembourg, Labgroup is certified as:

  • Provider of Digitisation Services, in other words Labgroup is empowered to create legal electronic copies of paper documents;
  • Provider of Conservation Services, which guarantees the integrity, confidentiality and persistence of electronic archives throughout their retention period.

3. GO DIGITAL ! LET’S GO FOR A PAPERLESS OFFICE!

Labgroup provides electronic document signing services, in collaboration with its partner Nowina, enabling companies to:

  • Facilitate the “workflow” (process) of contract signing, at national and international level (Europe),
  • Ensure transparency and trust between the signatory parties.

4. ASSESS YOUR GDPR AND CYBER RISK COMPLIANCE!

Today, Labgroup is the first independent provider to offer Cybermanager, a solution developed by its partner UBCOM, which is an assessment tool that allows business managers to evaluate in less than five hours their level of maturity and resilience of their organisations as well as their information systems facing cyber risks and GDPR regulation.
If the questionnaire is adapted to GDPR compliance, the approach should be viewed more holistically: an assessment of the organisation’s actual level of maturity regarding information governance Information governance and resilience.
An opportunity for organisations to better analyse their exposure to risks and make text compliance a competitive advantage by increasing the level of trust of its employees, customers and partners.

9 June – International Archives Day

This international day aims to raise awareness amongst organisations regarding the importance of archiving media, different types of documents and retention periods.

With good management, archives explain and justify the past. They may also contribute to the future actions of an organisation and help ensure its proper function: With triple administrative, legal and testimonial functions the archives allow:

  • Optimised document flow
  • Improved traceability of information
  • Increased performance, efficiency and help reduce costs
  • Conformity with legislation

By correct classification of archives, organisations have clear and efficient access information. As testimony to the past, archiving is also a means of guaranteeing access to information in cases of dispute.

Like Mister Archive, Labgroup ensures the proper management of an organisations information throughout its lifecycle.

An efficient Records Management or Archiving solution ensures that an archive is:

  • authentic – ensures the integrity of the information (no modification of the content)
  • traced  full history of the information throughout its lifecycle
  • perennial – ensures the readability of information over time

Labgroup–your partner for analogue and digital archiving management

Since 1977, Labgroup has provided information management and archiving services to organisations.

1st February 2017, Lab Luxembourg SA (Labgroup) became the first certified PSDC (Provider of Digitisation and/or Conservation Services), both for digitisation and conservation services. The legislator in Luxembourg anticipated a transformation of physical to digital with the implementation of the Law of the 25th July 2015 on electronic archiving. This law recognises the presumption of conformity given to electronic copies of paper documents, produced and stored by a certified “PSDC”.

This presumption of conformity is under the condition that the copy complies with a set of methodological and technical requirements guaranteeing its fidelity to the original paper document, as well as its non-alteration over time.

Therefore, with a guarantee from the Luxembourg State, the holders of information from all European countries can now entrust Labgroup with both digitisation operations and the storage of documents with legal value.

Labgroup’s range of services includes digitising of paper documents, storing and destroying physical archives, capturing and conserving electronic archives, protecting and restoring data and preserving IT media.

Protecting your data against cyberattacks

Labgroup guarantees its clients protection from any ransomware attack due to highest security standards.

The current events of ransomware attacks hit over 300 000 computers around the world infiltrating banks, hospitals and government institutions.
Labgroup is pleased to inform its clients that no incident of a cyberattack or ransomware attack has been registered/reported. No client of Labgroup, using cloud computing (only for managed services), content & records management or data protection services, has been affected by these recent incidents.

Labgroup constantly improves its security measures while investing in high malware prevention solutions. The result, a complete protection against malicious software! The information lifecycle management company is proud to confirm that to this day, Labgroup has not been infiltrated or affected by a cyberattack.

What is ransomware?

The ransomware is distributed by emails, infecting the computer of the recipient. The software encrypts all files and a ransom is asked to be paid. The ransomware further attempts to infect other machines on the same network. In the specific case of ransomware Wannacry, the infection spreads without any user interaction, using a Windows vulnerability on a commonly used network protocol.
Ransomware can:

  • Prevent you from accessing your data.
  • Encrypt files so you can’t use them.
  • Stop certain apps from running (like your web browser).

Why is malware so effective?

Most of us have already experienced a typical spam mail in our email account, containing an attached file (with a non-common extension) or URL link, suspicious at first sight.
New cyberattacks are more sophisticated, working with .pdf extensions and even files containing just a part of the malicious software code to deviate antispam/virus software.
Rather than sending the code within one file, which is (often) automatically detected by a standard antivirus/spam system, the malicious software code is sent in parts, integrated into non-suspicious, for instance, .jpeg or .pdf files and non-detectable by standard antivirus software.

If opened, the part of the code is silently installed on your computer, waiting for the other pieces of the malware puzzle to be integrated. Once all pieces of the puzzle are installed, they merge into one single code, infecting the computer of the victim.

How does Labgroup ensure a complete protection to its clients?

In order to guarantee a complete protection against cyberattacks, Labgroup implemented different solutions and follows strict security processes on several levels.
Firstly, the incoming emails and files run through a quick but effective Antispam/Antivirus filter allowing the system to remove the standard spam emails/malicious files.
Secondly, Labgroup is collaborating with the company ODI Security systems by using ODIX CDR (Content Disarm & Reconstruction) that prevents the insertion of malware, ransomware and malicious activities. Contrary to other security systems, ODIX CDR considers all incoming files and emails as malicious, processing all incoming files, removing the elements that do not match the files type’s standards or set policies, then rebuilds the files into clean versions. Even the malware puzzle system can’t trick the ODIX algorithms, guaranteeing all our clients the highest protection available on the market.
Labgroup constantly invests in its security systems, so it seemed only natural to work with this pioneer in the field of malware prevention by integrating ODI Share and ODI Mail into its protection system. ODI offers a next generation threat neutralisation and removal process based on advanced heuristics and mathematical algorithms, originally developed for the military and specially created to protect companies, like Labgroup, against malware.
Besides this, Labgroup implemented the fourth generation of firewalls, follows the recommended standard security measures for cybersecurity and conforms to the market security rules.

Functional backups are highly recommended to restore your files easily.

Protect all your business information with Labgroup. We guarantee protection, data recovery and business continuity with our backuponline services.

Backup is done incrementally and automatically to ensure minimal network resources while also safeguarding user productivity. In the case of a cyberattack, your data can be restored safely using our IT Recovery service.
